What does Flying Lotus use to make beats?
During promotion for the album 'Cosmogramma',
Flying Lotus spoke to andybetablog about his background:
FL: Started out pretty young, I was about 15-16, my cousin was making all types of crazy electronic music and I'd always mess around with his machines, he was really supportive and eventually got me my first piece of gear which was the Roland MC-505 groovebox.
As for the present, Remix Mag described Flying Lotus' setup as follows:
While recording, FlyLo sequesters himself with little more than his MacBook Pro laptop. He's tried his hand at programming beats on other gear, but nothing ever felt as comfortable. He's given up the Akai MPC, and his Korg Kaoss Pad and Roland RE-201 Space Echo just gather dust. It's all about finding the right instrument and mastering it, and for him it's the laptop.
FlyLo has also used or at least tried out
Native Instruments Maschine, as seen on this quote from the Maschine official site:
FL: "I think
Maschine is a really great tool for producers who want to throw their MPCs in the garbage."
