What are VST plugins?
VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology, and this term refers to software plugins commonly used with a DAW or Digital Audio Workstation.
There are two main categories - instruments (VSTi) and effects.
VST instruments generate audio and act as virtual synthesizers or virtual samplers.
VST effects process audio input. Examples would be reverb or distortion.
Software that allows VST plugins to be used are called VST hosts - most of which are DAWs.
